Sonia Brown, PE
Principal
Sonia Brown established Graphite Engineering in 2005 and has grown it to become a leading engineering firm in The Bahamas.
She began her esteemed career at the Bahamas Ministry of Public Works, developing nationally significant projects before moving to the Facilities division at Atlantis, Paradise Island where she served as director of projects, managing the multi-million-dollar capital budget for the entire property.
During her groundbreaking tenure as president of the Bahamas Society of Engineers, she grew the association’s membership and oversaw the passing of the Professional Engineers Act which regulated the engineering profession in The Bahamas, aligned it with international standards and required locally registered professionals to be responsible for all engineering works in The Bahamas.
As Chairperson of the Bahamas Engineers Architect and Allied Professionals (BEAAP), she seeks to promote the business interests of professionals involved in the physical development of The Bahamas.
In addition to her professional contributions, Sonia is also an advocate for the advancement of women. She is immediate past president of the PACE Foundation which provides education and life skills to pregnant teens and new teen mothers. She is a member of the Bahamas and International Women’s Forum.
Sonia also wrote a weekly column, The Green Files, which appeared in The Nassau Guardian from 2012 – 2016.
